A one-story ranch renovated to a 2-Story, 5 Bedroom Home

A second story was added to a Brick Ranch to create a 2 story - 5 bedroom sustainable home with a large master bedroom suite with a balcony.  It was a 1,400 SF Ranch and is now a 3,100 SF, 5 bedroom mansion.  This project was recently completed. It is located in Kentwood, Michigan..

A renovated building for a pet grooming facility

DFD Architecture has just completed the renovation of the Canine and Feline Grooming Salon in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The owner wanted to create a facility where pet groomers could rent suites to provide grooming services for their customers. The owner can now rent out 7 pet grooming suites to groomers and no longer has to be the employer.  The owner is pleased. Preserving existing buildings helps the planet save much energy and resources and maximizes client dollars.

A LEED Platinum home to start construction soon.

The homeowner wanted an affordable LEED Platinum home.  There is a master bedroom suite on the first floor and two guest rooms on the upper floor.  There is room for an additional bedroom on the lower floor.  There is a large 3 season porch in the rear to entertain guests in the large backyard.  This home will be located in Rockford, Michigan.

A renovated lower area of a home

This lower-level renovation of an unfinished basement about doubled the size of the home

in Grand Rapids, Michigan.   This 1,400 SF renovation added an exercise room, 2 bedrooms, a full bath, a storage room, and a large family room to the house for around $74,000 (2024 dollars). It was quite an impressive use of resources.  The renovation project was completed in about 10 weeks

A sustainable home nearing completion.

Sustainable homes and buildings are a focus of DFD Architecture, LLC.  David Dye designed this sustainable home near Manistee, Michigan.  It is under construction on a 2-acre lot overlooking Lake Michigan.   The home is well insulated with a south orientation and geothermal heat pump to heat and cool the home.  Solar panels tied into the energy grid will be used to provide power to the home in the future.  It is the next generation of energy efficient homes.

Riding stables and a riding area.

The riding stables were designed by David Dye for riding instructor named Kristin.  She was wanting to ride and teach in the winter at her farm in Rockford, Michigan. A 200' x 72' riding stable was designed with 16' clearance under the trusses.

A bathroom renovation

This main bathroom of a hundred-year-old bungalow was not working properly.  The plumbing was plugged.  The bathroom was totally gutted and new plumbing installed. The whole bathroom was upgraded with new marble floor, ceramic tile on 2 walls, spruce wainscot, 60" x 32" shower with grab bars, vanity, and a water efficient toilet. Wow what a difference!  Cost - $35,000 (2024 dollars) See gallery for more photos.
